With the help of city and church leaders, David plans to select 300 people from cities around the country and teach them a new way to eliminate their debt, start a savings plan, learn to budget what they have,  rebuild their credit, and begin to develop a solid financial foundation. “In 180 days, there will be a big change in the participants’ thinking and in their lifestyles,” vows David Bean, founder of EXODUS. “They will eliminate a portion of their debt, learn basic financial principles and get a big boost in their credit score while in the program.”

And the best part? Participation is free!

Here’s how it works: Participants will have access to a dedicated web site with step-by-step instructions. Once one section is completed, they move on to the next section, improving their understanding of finances as they go. And David is available at every turn to help answer questions and make sure they stay on the path to financial freedom.

David, a devout Christian, is especially interested in helping the city’s poorest citizens and those currently incarcerated for minor offenses, believing that reaching this population can have the greatest impact upon a community. “Inmates will eventually get out but have nothing to help them stay out—especially because we’re in a recession. This is a preventive measure.”

The goal of EXODUS is simple, he says. “When they’ve completed the 180 days, I want participants to have money in the bank, better credit, and a real budget. Most of all, I want them to be debt-proof so they’ll never slip back into poverty again.”
